Back with our old friends at Tarapaca in their magnificent estate just outside Santiago. After a 3 hour tasting looking at the new whites from 09, we were keen to sit down to dinner (lunch was a modest sandwich at the airport).
Chief Winemaker Ed Flaherty announced that we were first to taste his new Flagship red from Tarapaca. A rich deep full flavoured Cabernet Syrah that they've been secretly perfecting. It’s not released yet and only 400 cases have been made for the whole world. "The aim was to make the most exceptional Tarapaca we could" said Ed.
All I can say is that our glasses were empty and the bottle finished in record time. It’s that good. Price is around 40 quid but a Bordeaux First Growth is ten times that. This is far rarer and is set to be one of Chile's very best wines ever made.
