Gloucester's well worth a visit. Just phone and Go. Pass it on.

At last night's Laithwaites Wine second celebratory staff barbeque in pouring rain at Gloucester I learnt something useful; that some clever local customers have worked out how they can go and get wine from our wonderful Gloucester Cellars. We don't have a shop at the Cellars. However, if someone has an appointment (Try calling 01452 651970 to get one) then a charming girl will happily help them out. Ring the bell; things whirr, click and open. Customers are well sorted out. Our lot are extremely helpful in many ways!

And it’s a fascinating awe-inspiring place.

Impresses me no end. Me, who cannot even organise his own haircuts, getting the credit for this amazing great whirring, clicking, gliding shiny super-efficient thing is ... Is Ridiculous!

I just love to stand in the middle of it all (absolutely forbidden, of course) and marvel. It’s the model railway of my dreams. Cases scurrying hither, thither, up, down, along tracks at the start of their journey to customers.

Look for a discrete building with a barrel-roof (appropriate, eh?) on Hurricane road, Gloucester Business park, Brockworth.

The secret of this place's success (after the slightly unfortunate Terminal 5-type launch in '06) is not the machinery but those hard working, charming young people both upstairs where the phones are and downstairs packing and checking the trundling cases. Gloucester's finest. Poland's finest. I salute them all!

Their energy is extraordinary. Last night you could have powered a small town on that energy as the boys and girls got together for a dances and games in the rain!

I, the oldest by several decades just sat, watched and happily drank their choice of wines; the really amazingly good white Papavero, then Laithwaites Cabernet Sauvignon and the Opi. All went down a treat with a big roast pig served (quite moist) by a truly dedicated (and also very moist) young chef. England's Moist Barbecue Summer! Needs good wine.
