Wyfold

Writing day. Anxiously watching the skies. Barbara determined to net Wyfold before she goes to Bordeaux. So it has to be this evening. Worst weather for ages. Starts OK. Friends, neighbours and Theale folk in teams of 4 walking down each side of each row unravelling and hanging what looks like miles of net curtains. Sometimes goes well. Sometimes gets in a tangle you think you'll never unwind.

Then.... a big black cloud with thunder and lightning approaches and we think we should get out of all this steel wire. Sit steaming in cars for half an hour. Then carry on. Well, we're British!

Wonderful rainbow. Finish just as light fades and tuck into burgers and sausages by the campfire... As the skies clear. But the damn things are up. The pigeons won't get what looks like the best ever harvest - touch wood. A few more days of sun would be useful. In 3 weeks we will have finished picking in Bordeaux and be back to pick this.
