Castillon. Le Chai au Quai etc

Back to Castillon. EXCITING!!!

The smell of a good new vintage! Grapejuice, yeasts. Drives a man a bit crazy. Everywhere I see black-black grapes on the vine. And blazing sun - due to last. Looks very promising. "Ah but..." Says J-MS struggling to tell me all before he has to rush for the plane, "...but there are acids still...we must wait".

So now, having brought everything forward, we must put it back again! This is how it is at vintage. Always. Mother Nature loves to play tricks on uppity men.

Up to our little Chateau La Clariere where a party from our Gloucester Cellars are having a tour from Anne. She says I can take over. Thanks. So I take them out of the sun into the dim, dark, damp caves to see all the barrels of '09.

Then back to Chai to catch up with Clare who says we she's just taking her Great Danes to lunch would I mind standing by to do a tour of LaClariere caves at two because Henry is still on the road... from the UK. Thanks.

So up to Le Comptoir Sainte Genes to try grab a bit of the Gloucester crowd's food; 'Coquillages + Frites' with our Laithwaite Sauvignon. Meet the 'Skovgard' Danes, do the cellar routine for the millionth time and even open bottle of 1995 in a rash moment. Then Henry turns up takes over and drags us all down to his 'Sheddiste' Cellar for another session.

All the time trying to pick up the torrent of vintage info. Too much. Bed early.
