Dinner at Xavier's Forbury Restaurant in Reading with Barbara and her nephew Iain who started with us but has been Buyer for Bibendum for years (a not-unsuccessful Wine Shipper Wholesaler you may have heard of). I taught Iain how to buy!! And how to swim. He's never forgotten.
The place is heaving, noisy, multinational as befits Reading's now global status.
We get all the 'Trade' gossip from Iain. He travels much more than I do these days. BA have even given him a Gold Card! Dammit. They won't give me one even though we run their Wine Club and seem to live on their planes. Something I said?
Spot they have Jean-Francois Seguinot-Bordet Maligny Chablis 2008 (where I was last week) so we have a bottle of that with a brilliant fresh piece of brill.
Then go mad and have a bottle Echezeaux 2001 René Engel on Iain's say so. Not bad. The lad's getting good at this.
Summons arrives ... to Paris in couple of weeks to collect our Laureat for La Clariere Laithwaite from M. Le Ministre! Best not be late.
