This is a journey I could do in my sleep. In fact I usually do. Nearly sleepwalked on to the Marseilles flight by mistake this time. Anyway, just Henry, me and one other guy on the Bx flight. Outnumbered by attendants. Still, grateful they made the effort. A certain other airline we all know would've just cancelled and told us to walk.
In Bordeaux its 5 degrees and the sunlight is glimmering off the Dordogne. Well, it was for while.
We meet up with Clare, Justin and Olivier to plan improvements at La Clariere. We might start a replanting programme. We might get something to reduce humidity in the caves. We might do so much. Ever the quest to improve. Ever the need to spend yet more money! Its an ADDICTION is a vineyard.
Tried a bottle of our neighbour's new wine - Stephan Derencourt does make v pretty wines... but La Clariere is still the one to beat. House is freezing.... only designed to stay cool in summer! My shoes might soon catch fire but I do need to be very, very close to this log fire. Only warm spot there is. Burning old vines give little heat ..... but they do have a wonderful aroma.
Just called Laurent Breban in Provence... 16 degrees there! Wanted to talk about photos of his 'PS' fizzy rosé (preferably featuring his lovely sisters) but he just wanted to witter on about Johnny Wilkinson who is now THEIR demi-god and not ours any more! Playing his socks off, apparently. And loves a good Bandol Rosé. They ADORE him!
