Excellent Australian wine tasting last night

… in the Great Marble Hall of Australia House. (Thanks to Libby Woolcock for organising, and buyer Thomas Woolrych who has worked SO hard these last years). His mission: to prove Australia has as much variety as Europe. Our Sydney office has also helped masses. And our own little winery; RedHeads in McLaren Vale has done its bit too.

There is simply no better range of Aussie wines in Britain today. Amazing value from those surviving family wineries who did not get eaten up by the 4 (soon to be 3) megadrinks groups who do 90% of Aussie wine. When you buy Aussie wine always ask "is this from a real family estate or is it just a brand name?". Our families still care passionately about quality.

Here are the wines and his notes. Worth a read even if you weren't there ...

  1. Yay, somebody finally seeing the reality that 90% of sales by volume doesn't mean there is nothing else worth buying. Lots of great small Australian producers are coming armed with lots of great options for those buyers willing to look past the FMCG marketing managers.
